Social Sense supports Blackburn & Darwen Road Safety Campaign

The theme of Road Safety Week 2022 is SAFE ROADS FOR ALL, bringing together communities and professionals to shout out for everyone’s right to make safe and healthy journeys on safe roads.

We were commissioned by Blackburn with Darwen Council to consult with young people on their thoughts and opinions on roads where they live as part of their strategy to prioritise safer travel on a consistent basis to prevent any fatality, injury or collisions on the roads.

Following the successful delivery of campaign workshops with young people from local schools and groups they developed a several ideas to raise awareness about safer travel.
These design ideas were brought to life with our expert design team which followed with an open vote to young people across the borough to choose a campaign idea which would resonate within the community.

The winner of the campaign is titled Be Aware, Stay Aware, created by Zainab Hanslod who is a member of the West End Girls activity group.

The poster will feature throughout November on bus stops, billboards and posters all over Blackburn and Darwen and contains powerful warning messages to drivers including sticking to the speed limit, not drinking and driving and staying off your phone when behind the wheel.

This was an amazing opportunity for Social Sense to work with talented young people living in Blackburn and Darwen to develop this road safety campaign. We hope their preventative messaging will resonate within the community, encouraging safer roads for everyone across the borough.
