Social Sense’s Mindful Me commissioned by Kent Police Crime and Commissioner

Social Sense can announce that the Mindful Me programme has been commissioned in Kent as part of the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner’s Safer in Kent Fund.

The delivery of Mindful Me will offer young people in Kent and Medway the opportunity to build character, resilience and strong mental wellbeing via direct delivery and digital engagement leading to purpose, fulfilment and connection to their communities.

Starting with face to face delivery of Mindfulness awareness sessions in schools and youth settings, the soon-to-be launched Mindful Me App will then provide a safe online platform for young people to continue practicing their Mindfulness.

In Medway, Sevenoaks, Dartford and Tunbridge Wells, we will work with 2 of the most deprived secondary schools in each area to deliver 8 Mindfulness sessions in assemblies or PSHE lessons.

The project will support circa 2000 young people (aged 13-14) in school and youth settings to build strong mental wellbeing though education about mind management and equipping them with resilience-building tools using the Mindful Me programme. The app will allow us to reach a much wider audience, potentially tens of thousands.

The Mindful Me app serves to enhance their healthier minds by engaging with enriching activities in their communities including: youth clubs; volunteering; fundraising; social action projects; education; arts and sport. We will collate information, activities and opportunities that are provided by committed partner organisations.

We will be using our strong established links in Kent and building on our delivery of Mindfulness approaches to the children’s workforce as part of our contribution to the HeadStart Kent programme.

“Social Sense is thrilled to be working with Kent Police to introduce Mindfulness to young people in Kent.  Mindfulness now has a growing body of evidence to show the impact it can have on children and young people’s wellbeing, relationships, social skills and behaviour. It is a tool for life and our Mindful Me app will provide ongoing digital access for young people to practice the techniques and to connect them to activities and services in their locality which can further provide support to their wellbeing and sense of community.” – Gary Lovatt, Managing Director, Social Sense.
