The University of Salford recently hosted an impactful Changemaker event, organised and delivered in partnership with Social Sense, bringing together accomplished entrepreneurs and sector leaders to help students explore pathways in purpose-driven careers.
The half-day event, which took place on March 6th, featured talks from notable speakers including Elaine Bousfield, Chief Executive of Zuntold and founder of the mental health platform Kooth.com; Anne-Marie Marshall, Services Manager at Salford CVS; and Mish Liyanage, Chief Executive and founder of the Mistoria Group and Student Haus.
Gary Lovatt chaired the event, introducing the sessions and facilitating the innovative group challenges that formed a central part of the event. Students tackled real-world problems across three crucial contemporary themes: Wellbeing, Transport, and Sustainability.
A highlight of the day was Elaine Bousfield's presentation on "Transforming mental health for young people at scale," sharing valuable insights from her experience in digital mental health innovation. This was complemented by Mish Liyanage's session on "Key factors for Entrepreneurial success," offering practical guidance for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Anne-Marie Marshall concluded the day with an inspiring session on "Finding your north star - Values led decision making," helping students understand how to align their career choices with their personal values.
The success of this event highlighted the importance of bringing together academic institutions, social enterprises, and industry leaders to inspire and guide the next generation of social entrepreneurs and changemakers.
